alex&felix started the collaboration 1996 in lucerne. we both are born in lucerne switzerland 1967.

Characteristic for our work is the staging prior to our actual shooting. Based on diverse objects and materials we are crafting backdrops for the pictures, creating imaginative, often somewhat absurd and surreal worlds. It is our conscious decision to build sceneries in real terms and not on a computer screen. Thanks to these multi textured backgrounds, the pictures never give the impression of being artificial but rather radiate with their immediacy.

„Art does not reproduce the visible but makes things visible.“ - Paul Klee
When we enter a room of artworks by Anouk Griffioen we find ourselves surrounded by colossal people, hybrid beings and shadows. The auras of these works can be frightening, strange and confusing, but they also arouse the viewer’s curiosity about the inner beings inside her creations. Her lifelike method of depiction lends them great expressivity.

Griffioen amalgamates reality and imagination; flora and fauna merge seamlessly into one another, thus forming surrealistic dream worlds. Griffioen is capable of committing the invisible and unreal to paper, all the while making it seem like reality to the observer.

The great depth, complexity and attraction of her artworks are illustrated and enhanced by the effect of her black- and-white charcoal and pencil drawings. For these, she uses formats that range from life-sized to monumental, which underscore the effect and forcefulness of her works. Her inspiration and imaginativeness derive from small, everyday things and from the imagined worlds of her children.

Like “Alice in Wonderland”, she pitches us into a dimension where the laws of nature no longer hold good and where our imagination knows no bounds. In this way she expands our field of experience using something special and wondrous. Every work in her oeuvre possesses an extraordinary power of attraction, which the viewer finds it hard to escape.

Diana Scheunemann is a Swiss/German photographer who currently lives in New York City. Her unique vision keeps her in demand for advertising and editorial campaigns, and has led her to be commissioned by celebrities across the world. She has concurrently spent over a decade travelling and capturing the personal scenes from her life with provocative honesty. Citing her "exotic and, at times, extreme lifestyle" as an influence for her work, she remains hungry for new directions and projects.

The core ethic behind all her work is the desire to explore the boundaries around our ideas of personal freedom and humanity. She portrays these conditions fearlessly. She aims to show human experience in the broadest and truest light, and without judgment.

Since 1999 she has undertaken the photo-diary project Behind My Face, which aims to document every day of her life through self-portraiture. When asked to elaborate, she explains, "I want to write the book of my life as the most exciting thing to read." In 2010 she made the transition to moving picture with Love American Skin, a feature-length documentary art film. The film explores her autobiographical inclinations whilst examining her passions for personal freedom and humanity through a series of unflinching interviews with strangers she met during two months on the road.

To date, her photographs have been published in leading magazines all over the world including Vogue, Elle, Playboy, Arena, and GQ. Her personal work has been published in three separate monographs: Ambisexual (2001, Vision On, ISBN 1903399467), Diana Scheunemann (2005, Damiani Editore, ISBN 8889431148), and Freedom In Flashes (2007, Honigherz, ISBN 9783033011748).

Floor has always been mad about photography and used to create fake holiday pics as a child, featuring family members, including even absent ones. She studied silver photography techniques at the Stedelijk Instituut voor Sierkunsten en Ambachten in Antwerpen and thought she'd make career of it. Then she met Mike, a music-mad handyman who spent hours on his computer creating sound tracks for fashion shows. Floor became interested in things digital, while Mike had a go at photography. Love did the rest. Today the couple operates as a well-oiled creativity machine, with Floor behind the camera and Mike in front of the screen. Working as signature photographers for Dutch magazines, they are known for their celebrity portraits and display their work in several galleries.

    GREG GORMAN

For over four decades, Greg Gorman has continued to master the art of photography.  From celebrity portraits and advertising campaigns to magazine layouts and fine art work, Greg has developed and showcased a discriminating and unique style in his profession.  Greg’s work documents that peculiar obsession of the 21st century celebrity.  His photography is timeless and not confined to has-beens, hot properties, and wannabes.  Each shot gives a picture of human nature in its infinite range.  Each picture is also a testament to the individual character. “For me a photograph is most successful when it doesn’t answer all the questions,” says Gorman, “and it leaves something to the imagination.”

In 1985, through the advice of illustrator Antonio Lopez, Gorman realized that he needed a creative outlet in addition to the commercial work that launched his career.   He then began to expand his personal work exploring the human form and became a notable photographer for not only his celebrity portraiture but also his figure studies of the male and female nude.

When not shooting famous faces, Greg travels the world for specialized photographic projects and continues to work on compilations of his imagery. A book of his photos for the award winning l.a. Eyeworks campaign, entitled Framed was released in 2012.  In the fall of 2009, Damiani Editore released In Their Youth: Early Portraits, which incorporates forty years of unpublished work. These join Gorman’s previously published books Greg Gorman Volume I, Greg Gorman Volume II, Inside Life, Perspectives, As I See It, Just Between Us and a book of platinum prints entitled Odes to Pindar, published by The Journal of the 21st Century.

Greg Gorman has been recognized for his contribution to the world of photography with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Professional Photographer’s of America, the Achievement in Portraiture Award from The Lucie Foundation and the Pacific Design Center Stars of Design award. Greg has also been acknowledged for his charitable works for The Elton John Aids Foundation, Aids Healthcare Foundation, Focus on Aids, The Oscar De La Hoya Foundation, Vox/Out Voices of Style + Design, PETA, Angel Art, and PawsLA.

Born in 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, Greg attended the University of Kansas from 1967-69 with a major in photojournalism.  He completed his studies at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts degree in cinematography in 1972.  Greg’s latest career venture has been in the world of winemaking.  In collaboration with Orin Swift Cellars, Greg began making wine under his own label, GKG Cellars, in 2006. He currently divides his time between his homes in Los Angeles and Mendocino, California.

    MICHAEL JOHANSSON

Michael Johansson deals with ordinary objects we all recognize, but in a way far from the ordinary. Driven by the agenda to densify the world, objects are morphed into precisely stacked rectangular shapes, connected to a certain place, where their original purpose are transformed into catalysts of new meanings.

Outdated items within the same colour range are reconstructed into a homogeneous image of a fictional life reinforced by our collective imaginary: the compressed scenery from a time gone by. Or the excessively well packed storage space where each object appears to be an immutable part of a solid whole. The newfound rigid order separates the objects from their usage, and invites us to a shared space where the familiar meets the unfamiliar.

Engaging with this concept in the public space, the viewer is confronted with a situation that could both be perceived as either a very odd incident or as carefully put together. Leaving him with an uncertainty that lingers even long after passing the work.

After studies at the Art Academy in Trondheim, Norway, and Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee, Germany, Johansson took his masters degree at Malmö Art Academy, Sweden, 2005. After that he has taken part of several residencies and exhibited frequently both within and outside of Sweden. Some of his most important exhibitions include: Malmö Art Museum (SE), Galerie Filomena Soares (PT), Moscow Museum of Modern Art (RU), Meessen de Clercq (BE), Ystads Art Museum (SE) and Vigeland-museet (NO). He currently lives and works in Malmö, Sweden and Berlin, Germany.

ALEX&FELIX

alex used to be goldsmith and did also an apprenticeship as photographer.
felix used to be a hair dresser, for a short time, and then became a graphic designer. after that he worked as photographer assistant.

alex&felix started the collaboration 1996 in lucerne. we both are born in lucerne switzerland 1967.

FOTOFLOOR

Behind this record-label type moniker, Mike van der Giessen and Floor Stoop are an inseparable pair of photographers who now have been working together for nine years.

DIANA SCHEUNEMANN
